“Having already made five announcements of the ‘positively last performance of “William Tell”’ we are ashamed to say that it will be done again on Saturday at the matinee. It is one of the things apparently that the world will not willingly let die.”

“On Saturday ‘William Tell’ is to be given for the matinée,—we would accept the assurance of the advertisements, and say for positively the last time, but have learned wisdom from experience and will leave the public to determine the probabilities of the matter for themselves.”

“The farewell matinée of ‘William Tell’ was well attended on Saturday, and the opera gave the usual satisfaction, Lefranc being, of course, the central point of attraction. Mlle. Lami, who takes the part of Jemmie, by the way, deserves a good word, for she is proving herself to be one of the best seconda donnas we have yet had. Her voice is a pure high soprano, and as she is willing to begin her career by singing comparatively minor parts, there is no reason why she should not rise to an enviable position in her profession.”
