“With last night’s performance Maretzek brought to a conclusion his very brilliant operatic season. He leaves all his patrons with delightful reminiscences of evenings pleasantly passed, and operas admirably rendered—this concluding work the best of all, not only best in itself, but best presented. The next season begins on the 1st of February. In regard to it the public will have but one wish perhaps to express, and that is that a good baritone and bass should meantime be secured; with these we could feel assured that every work presented would meet with a masterly treatment in all its parts.”
