“The congregations of the Church of All Souls and Church of the Messiah held joint services yesterday morning in the former church… the absence of any evergreen or floral decorations seemed singular in contrast with the generally profuse decorations of other churches. The music, however—that medium for the highest expression of joy as well as the sad and deeper passions of the heart—was of unsurpassed excellence. The pieces sung were Jubilate, in B flat, by J. Mosenthal; ‘He Shall Feed His Flock,’ from the ‘Messiah,’ and ‘Hark, What Mean Those Holy Voices?’ by S. P. Warren—the choir consisting of Miss E. A. Hamlin, soprano; Miss L. Perring, contralto; Mr. J. E. Perring, tenor, and Mr. W. Green, basso.” Continues on about the sermon.
