“4 p. m. Steinway Hall. C. M. A. Rehearsal. Choruses from Oberon. Credo, fugue, Sanctus from Mozart No. 12. Enjoyed it heartily. Attendance larger than it was last Tuesday…Certain passages in that grand fugue are amazing. They manifest Mozart’s power of producing the loftiest and noblest expression, when tied down by the strictest conventional laws of counterpoint. The Et Incarnatus, Qui Tollis, &c were easy work compared with this.”
