“The Theatre Comique has done a good business since it re-opened as a variety hall, the attendance having been quite large throughout the past week. Carleton, the vocalist, who opened on the 4th, does not sing to as good advantage as he did when he first appeared in this city. His tour through the west and south has not improved him, for his voice has broken, and is neither as full or as musical as before. His collection of songs is, however, good. Billy Hart opened in his Ethiopian Scotch Strathspy, and was ridiculously funny both in dress and dancing. Sheridan and Mack took well in their specialties. Miss Hindle appeared in the same songs she has been singing for months; she should give us something new. The ballet, under the direction of Monsieur Grossi, with Venturoli and Augusta as premiers, is one of the best we have had in some time, so far as numbers go. Marie Adrienne, danseuse, made her debut the past week. Clara Butler, vocalist, appeared in a selection of songs; but this lady is too heavy to make a favorable impression upon her audiences. Rita Percy, the statuesque artist, who appeared each evening in a number of her classical statues, closed her engagement on the 9th inst.”
