“At the Academy of Music two very respectable performances on Friday of ‘Robert le diable,’ and on Saturday of ‘Lucie di Lammermoor,’ have been given by the French Opera Company for their own benefit, and we are happy to say not without tangible results. The company includes several meritorious artists, and although the manager doubtless committed the error of underestimating the caliber of the operatic talent to which New-York has of late years been accustomed, this was hardly the fault of the singers, who have done their utmost to please, and have been placed by the failure of the enterprise in a humiliating and distressing situation. We shall rejoice to know that they have been comfortably extricated from their difficulties, and are able to look forward to a more promising future.”

“The French opera company which lately met with such reverses at the Academy of Music has lately been singing in Baltimore with favorable results.”
