“Music at T[rinity] C[hurch] this morning was beneath contempt. But it was well expected. The reorganized choir is strong, and seems well-drilled. Its tone in tutti passages is fine and impressive. Pity such material should be wasted on such compositions as Calkins and Hopkins and Barnby and Smith in A, Jones in B, Brown in C and Robinson in D—while we possess the works of such masters of sacred art as Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven.”
