“Excepting on two evenings of the past week, Bryants’ Minstrels performed to large and delighted audiences, as was manifested by the frequent outbursts of laughter and the many encores given. Dan Bryant keeps his act of ‘The Black Statue’ on the bills, and he creates considerable laughter by giving what he calls poses of ‘Kit Burns fastening his sandals before King Solomon,’ ‘The Fighting Gladiator before the Excise Commissioners,’ and ‘George Washington taking a drink at three o’clock in the morning at Chris. Conner’s.’ Dan Bryant and Dave Reed also did Delehanty and Hengler’s song and dance of ‘Shoo Fly, Don’t Bodder Me,’ but dressing it entirely different from the originals. They, however, had the original music and most of the business and did the act very well. The balance of the programme was replete with laughable acts.”
