“The Persian Coterie gave a masquerade ball at the Central Park Garden last evening. The evening’s entertainment began with a grand march at 11 o’clock, in which some hundred couples took part. Turk and African, shepherdess and brigand, African and Yankee, Spanish cavalier and scotch lassie, joined hands in perfect friendship, and mirth and pleasure, fun and frolic were rulers of the evening’s festivities. The dancing was carried far into the small hours of the morning, and the whole think in spite of the rainy evening, went off to the entire satisfaction of all concerned. O’BRIEN’S band furnished the music for the occasion.”
