“The third rehearsal of the Philharmonic Society took place before a great throng of subscribers and miscellaneous visitors on Friday. The programme consisted of (Part 1) MOZART’S Symphony in Eb; LISZT’S concerto for pianoforte in E flat major, played by Miss ALIDE TOPP, with orchestral accompaniment, and (Part 2) MENDELSSOHN’S ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream,’ incident to which Mrs. SCOTT-SIDDONS read [part of SHAKESPEARE’S play of that name. This programme was repeated at the first concert of the Society for the season, which was given last night, and an account of which we shall publish to-morrow.”
