“Matthew D. Greene: A complimentary concert is to be given at Irving Hall on Saturday evening for the benefit of Matthew D. Greene, who has been disabled from labor by paralysis for the past year, and whom his friends desire in this way to aid.  Mr. Greene has been known in political circles for many years as an active and energetic politician, and has made many friends.  Being of a generous temper, lavis rather than thrifty in his use of money, he has saved nothing for the “rainy day” that is now upon him.  We trust that this effort for his relief may prove successful.”

“Miscellaneous. The complimentary concert to Mathew D. Greene on Saturday evening, at Irving Hall, ended in a very substantial and satisfactory result. The performance was a satisfactory one, and the hall was filled, but it did not, of course, represent the entire number of tickets actually sold. We are glad to hear that Mr. Greene who,—although badly paralyzed,—was present, will be benefited to the extent of upward of two thousand five hundred dollars. This is not only acceptable in itself, but it is gratifying as an indication of the esteem in which Mr. Greene is held by his friends.”
