“Immense houses are the rule at Tony’s every night and the most diversified programme is offered for their entertainment. This week the renowned Delehanty and Hengler, without peers as song and dance men, will make the boards rattle to the measure of some of their capital Ethiopian double dances, including ‘Love among the Roses’ and the ‘Saragoga Bloomers.’ Johnny Thompson goes ‘carpet-bagging’ around the stage as usual, and when he goes down to his valise for that horn he ‘Stoops to Conquer’ all the gamins in the gallery, and effects his object, as is testified by the uproarious applause. The performance terminates nightly with the drama of ‘The Bandit Chief, or the Last Struggle for Life,’ abounding in heavy villains, sword combats and chivalric sensation.”
