Review: New York Post, 22 January 1869.

“Some regard our city as wholly given over to money-making and fashion; but there are evidences of remarkable culture and taste which elevate and harmonize its social life. The educated taste and skill of our musical amateurs was shown the other evening when Signor Albites gave a private concert. The entertainment was entirely provided by amateurs, ladies and gentlemen whose vocal accomplishments have long been the delight of private circles. They rendered some of the choicest music of Rossini Donizetti, Meyerbeer and Verdi, with a correctness and feeling which made it a great treat to listen. Some of the vocalism was far above the average professional style; the arrangements were in the best taste, the audience appreciative and the whole affair highly creditable to the accomplished musician who directed, and the ladies who inspired the charming occasion.”
