“In the ‘Trovatore,’ last night, at the Academy of Music—in that unfailing opera, which, if no longer fresh, is still an over-flowing fountain of musical sweets, and recalls to mind all the prominent sopranos, altos, tenors and baritones that have sung here since the days of Steffanoni—Lefranc, the reigning tenor of the day, gave another proof of his immense vocal resources. He sang the Ah si ben mio with exquisite taste and delicacy, and in the Di quella pira brought out the high C in superb style, winning a hearty encore in which he renewed his success. The other characters in the opera were represented in good style (but in a way to call for no special notice), by Briol, Lumley, Reyna and Barili.”
