“Mme. Elena Lanari, assisted by Miss J. E. Bull, Miss Markstein and Messrs. Hill, Beckett and Mora, gave a ‘Farewell Concert’ at the Hall of the Young Men’s Christian Association last evening. Dr. Berge being ill Mr. Driessler supplied his place as accompanist. Mme. Lanari has a well-trained voice, and sang acceptably, while Miss Bull gave general satisfaction in a song by Abt and a subsequent encore. Mr. Mora, in response to an encore, gave an extemporaneous reading of Schubert’s ‘Ave Maria’ on the organ, with real feeling and good effect. Mr. Mora is a good and skillful organist, though we should like to hear him in something besides the popular but rather ‘trashy’ music of the day. The remainder of the artists filled their parts most acceptably.”
