“A few nights ago an amateur performance of Verdi’s ‘Trovatore’ was given at Allemania Hall for the benefit of the Home for the Blind. The parts were chiefly taken by the pupils of Madame Murio Celli, and the efforts of the accomplished amateurs were highly creditable. The soprano was especially noticed for her sympathetic and flexible voice. She sang the aria D’amor sull’ali rosee with much feeling, admirably executing the closing cadenza. The contralto, who possesses a good and powerful voice, sang artistically. Signor Boy was the tenor, and he was ably assisted by the baritone of the evening. The whole performance was agreeable to the auditors, and most creditable to Madame Murio Celli.”
