“Tony Pastor’s Opera House has had the swing on the east side during the past week, overflowing houses being the report each night. This house seldom suffers for want of patronage, as Tony invariable gives everybody the worth of their money; but the increase of business last week was attributable to the advent of Johnny Thompson, the celebrated comedian and song and dance artist. He made his bow in his specialty, ‘The Lively Moke,’ and met with an enthusiastic reception, for the frequenters of the pastorage have not forgotten the eccentricities by which he was wont make ‘em ‘laugh right out loud’ before he left for the slope Pacific. This act is as good as ever, and though presented to often, elicited the same amount of applause as on its first night. He likewise appeared with Frank Kerns in the amusing sketch of ‘High Jack, the Heeler,’ Tommy Riggs as Jack, Kerns as Kully, and Warren as Pincher, were very funny. ‘Right or Wrong; or, The Battle of Life,’ concluded the performance, and gave George Thompson a chance to ‘spread’ himself. Tony Pastor re-appeared this week, and John [illegible] is added to the forces.”
