“…Mr. Grant presided at the organ. The music was well rendered, and the handsome young ladies who graced the choir with their presence made the singing no small feature of the service.

“Messrs. Gallagher and Brown performed as tenors, Mr. Charles Shorey as bass, Miss Emma Hawes soprano, Miss Annie Hawes and Miss Essie French contraltos. [Lists program, including unidentified and unattributed hymns, Gloria movements, chants, and sung psalms.] The Te Deum was the leading piece of music, and had full justice done to it at the hands of the choir.

“Effect of the singing. In the singing of it the combined strength of the choir was exceedingly impressive, and if such a thing as an encore were permissible within the precincts of a temple of worship a second performance would have been gladly welcomed. The swell of the organ pealing forth notes of jubilation, to indicate the Christian feeling of joy at the resurrection of the Saviour [sic] and the opening of the eternal gates to hope and bright salvation, was well seconded in the anthem of vocal praise that rose in grand volume above the choir and filled the church from end to end.”
