“…A rich musical feast was accorded the congregation in Paolo Georza’s [Giorza’s] grand high mass, which was finely rendered by the choir… The mass is a work of much merit and affords scope to the exercise of the highest talent.

“THE CHOIR. Mr. A. C. Martinez gave the organ accompaniment, with Madam Anna V. Martinez as soprano, Mrs. M. Kennedy contralto, Herr C. Hubner tenor and Professor C. Haimer as basso. The regular choir were ably assisted by the sweet and well trained voices of Mrs. Rome, Miss Moren, Miss Kate Ennis, Miss Keating and several other volunteer artistes.

“As soon as the notes of the fine organ fell on the ear the full choir took up the Kyrie Eleison, which they had evidently rehearsed with much care. The music rose and surged and sank like a sea of living melody, rivetting [sic] the attention of those least alive to the influences of sweet strains. Among the solos of this work deserving especial notice are the Laudamus, which was well exected by Professor Haimer, and the Hœc Deus, whose soul reaching and sadly sweet strains were given by Madame Marinez with the warmth and graceful finish of a thorough artist.”
