“[A]t the Hippotheatron the Risley Combination continue their miscellaneous performance every evening until further notice.”

Announcement: New York Post, 30 April 1870, 1.

“Risley’s combination troupe at the New York Circus building retired from the field after a struggle of one week. The performance was scarcely strong enough to stand metropolitan criticism. A wealthy capitalist is expected from Europe next week to take charge of the troupe, in which he is pecuniarily interested.”

Review: New York Clipper, 07 May 1870, 38.

“The Risley Combination seems to have subsided, and will not, it is thought, appear again as a troupe.”

“In a separate column on the same page: “‘The Risley Combination’ was advertised to continue at the Hippotheatron during the past week, but no performance was given, the last entertainment at that place occurring on Saturday night, April 23d. We presume the end of this combination will be its disbandment, the various interests looking out for themselves.”
