“Some time ago about 500 Israelite emigrants from West Russia arrived in this City, having been forced to flee from their native land by oppression. These people are now entirely destitute, and in order to assist them several philanthropic gentlemen have arranged to give a grand concert at Irving Hall, to take place on Tuesday evening week [sic]. Professionals and amateurs have volunteered their services, and there is every indication that the affair will be eminently successful. Tickets are to be had at the principal music stores.”

Announcement: New-York Times, 23 May 1870, 4.

“The promised concert in aid of the destitute Russian Israelites now in this City, occurs tomorrow at Steinway Hall. Its pecuniary success is earnestly to be wished by the charitable. The entertainment will be a good one, so its happy termination ought to have no obstacle. [Lists performers.] Mr. Dressler will be an accompanist.”

Announcement: New-York Daily Tribune, 24 May 1870, 4.

“A concert is to be given at Irving Hall this evening in aid of the suffering Israelites of Western Russia. The condition of these poor people has awakened a great deal of sympathy all through Europe, though in this country, except by those of their own faith little has been heard of their misfortune.”
