“…As an Irish boy [Little Nell] cannot be surpassed, and she is equally fine as a Dutch girl, while as a drummer boy, banjo soloist and singer and dancer she is just as hard to beat.”
“…Little Nell assumes four distinct characters, and acts, sings, plays banjo and drum, and dances to perfection…Between the two pieces in the programme the infant prodigy, Master Ignacio Marinetti, appears and sings the old familiar song of ‘Captain Jinks, of the Horse Marines,’ in a most remarkable manner, at once setting the audience in a roar of laughter…”
“…A pretty little creature of some fourteen years of age [Little Nell], she dances, sings, acts, and plays the banjo briskly and vivaciously, and finds favor with the audience…” No further mention of music.
The attractive features of the bill were…Johnny Thompson, in a song and dance, who is nightly encored half a dozen times…Madelaine Hardy in burlesque songs, Lizzie Kelsey in serio-comic songs, Master Barney in Dutch songs…The house has admirable ventilation, and the entertainment is always attractive.” In “Popsey Wopsey,” Little Nell “impersonated a young girl with a song and dance, an Irish boy with song and jig, a Dutch girl with song and wooden shoe dance, and a boy with a drum and banjo solo. This young lady is about fourteen years of age, and possesses a great fund of natural talent which is yet in a very crude state. Her voice is remarkably clear and powerful; she sings well, dances fairly, drums tolerably, and plays the banjo very well. [Continues about her acting abilities and general demeanor.] All of her songs were encored, and her banjo solo was twice demanded. During the recall she gave an excellent imitation of the chimes of church bells…” Long review, but no further mention of music.
