Brief. Part of larger announcement for the cornerstone ceremony, which was scheduled to take place in the afternoon. “After the ceremonies there will be a festival, to commemorate the event, held at Terrace Garden.”
“The Beethoven Mannerchor will lay the corner-stone of their new hall…After the ceremony, music, songs and dancing at the Terrace Garden.”
At the close of the cornerstone laying ceremony, “the Society proceeded to the Terrace Garden…where a Summer night’s festival was held, which was spoiled, however, as far as members are concerned, to some degree, by the thunder-storm which occurred toward evening. The evening entertainment consisted of music performed by Mollenhauer’s Band, several choruses sung by the Beethoven Maennerchor, and dancing. The whole festival was a complete success throughout. The Society intends to have their hall erected in time for the celebration of the centenary of Ludwig von Beethoven, on December 17 next, on which occasion they will perform the opera ‘Fidelio,’ and the oratorio, ‘Christ on the Mount of Olives,’ both by Beethoven.”
