“There was at the Stadt Theatre last night a very fair performance of ‘The Huguenots,’ the work of Meyerbeer, which the great composer himself deemed his best. Mlle. Lichtmay was the Valentin of the evening, and her rich, powerful voice was quite equal to the requirements of the music. Mr. Bernard did his best with the difficult part of Raoul. Mr. Franosch made an effective Marcel, and to these three artists the chief merit of the performance may be attributed. Mr. Habelmann in one of the minor parts rendered efficient aid, and the encore awarded to the rataplan chorus was owing chiefly to the obligato tenor part, which he sang excellently.

“The house was crowded and the audience enthusiastic. The chief need of the Stadt Theatre, at present, is means of ventilation.”
