Review: New York Herald, 03 October 1870, 10.

Brief; “‘Le Petit Faust’ remains on the bills of the Grand Opera House. It is a very clever and amusing opera bouffe, and some of Hervé’s best music may be found in it; but it is robbed of many of its attractions by the vulgarity and positive indecency of some of the company. The lady who appears as Marguerite and the gentleman cast as Faust act in a manner which should not be tolerated on any stage. The ballet also, in which there is not one premiere danseuse, strictly speaking, should either be omitted entirely or considerably pruned.”
