“At the Stadt Theatre last night Meyerbeer’s ‘Robert le Diable’—a work which divides the place of honor with the ‘Huguenots’—was given before a large audience, for whom the unfavorable state of the weather seemed to have no terrors. Mlle. Lichtmay was the Alice, and showed her superior talent to advantage. Mr. Himmer was the Robert, and found the music somewhat beyond his vocal force, though his conception of it was excellent. Mr. Franosch’s Bertram was scarcely up to the mark of his previous personations. The chorus and orchestra needed a little more rehearsal, and the ballet was conspicuous by its absence.”
