“Verdi’s favorite production attracted last night another large audience, and the familiar music received the closest attention. Mrs. Bernard sang with decided emotional power, though suffering from a touch of bronchitis. Mrs. Seguin was so admirable throughout as Azucena that we are not surprised to hear that foreign impresarios are after her. To Mr. Castle’s singing of Manrico’s music, and to Mr. Lawrence’s artistic rendering of the part of Di Luna, much of the success of the performance is owing.”
