“3rd Philharmonic rehearsal this p.m. House very full. With us were Mrs. D’Oremieulx & Wolcot Gibbs, Mrs. S. L. Barlow & her Miss Elsie, etc. Everything went smoothly & well. Mme. Czillag sang an aria from Idomeneo [sic] & also “Ah mon fils,” an air I hate. I’m no judge of vocalization, but I believe it’s the correct thing to say that “her voice is a little worn, but her method good.”
Philharmonic directors met after rehearsal. They are short-sighted about petty expenditure—and I think also refusing complimentary tickets to representatives of two or three rather decent newspapers.”
