“An exceedingly entertaining performance was given at the Fourteenth-street Theatre, on Saturday evening, in aid of the sufferers of the war in Europe. The affair was gotten up by the members of the Cercle Francais de l’Harmonie, and with the co-operation of M. PAUL JUIGNET, of M. GAUSINS, of the Grand Opera-house Company, of M. LEFRANC, the distinguished tenor, and a number of well-known artists, it passed off most pleasantly. In ‘Madame Bertrand et Mademoiselle Raton,’ a very amusing comedietta, the principal part was capitally rendered by MM. JUIGNET, EDGARD and ROUSSEAU, three old and valued acquaintances. The musical intermezzo of the night introduced MM. LEFRANC and FLAMMANT and Mmes. HALLIER-DOSSY and LEYDEKER. The magnificent singing of M. LEFRANC was the feature of this portion of the representation. The evening was ended with the execution of ‘La Marseillaise,’ the prima donnas from the Grand Opera-house and all the artists taking part in the chorus, and the audience standing throughout. The house was filled.”
