“Miss Emma Alford in answer to encores sang some very pretty ballads sweetly, more particularly a Welsh melody. Miss Emma Grattan, a burlesque singer, with a rich and costly change of costume, has a fine stage presence and good facial expression, but a better and more vivacious selection of music is desirable; those she sang on the evening of the 26th ult. being too monotonous. W. Ashcroft as the ‘Lively Moke,’ with his performance on a variety of musical instruments, including a lilliputian fiddle and trombone, mere toys, with his humorous oral interludes, was laughable to a degree.”
