“On Saturday night Prof. E. Millet gave a grand Soirée Musicale, at the elegant rooms of Mrs. Hoffman, in Thirty-eighth-street, before a large and fashionable audience. A programme of choice selections from Rossini, Donizetti, Balfe, Beethoven, with original music by Prof. Millet, was was [sic] given with an appreciative spirit which one rarely finds in amateurs. The young ladies, as though accustomed to the imperious demands of the most critical audiences, sustained charmingly their rôles, and achieved a decided success. The feature of the concert was a Corsican scene, the words and music by Prof. Millet. The topic was borrowed from the old and wild vendettish habits of the people on the little isle of Corsica. The music seemed in entire harmony with the dramatic wording of the scene, and would warrant the composer in more frequently and pretentiously appearing before the public.”
