Review: New York Clipper, 25 March 1871, 406.

“…in which he [Johnny Thompson] acted the character of Jack Norton and impersonated in the course of the drama eight other characters, assumed as disguised for carrying out the plot, besides playing solos upon the clarionet, Chinese fiddle, harmonicon, toy violin, toy trumpet, harmony flute, a cow’s horn, bass viol, banjo, harp and cornet-a-piston, singing several songs and dancing jigs and character dances. It is seldom that such varied qualifications are found united in one person.”
