Review: New York Post, 16 March 1871, 4.

“A concert was given at Chickering Hall last evening by Mr. J. E. Haner, a pianist, who can scarcely compete with those who have recently appeared in our concert halls. His touch is powerful, but somewhat lacking in delicacy. He was, however, repeatedly encored last night.

Mr. Haner was assisted by his pupil, Miss Carter, Madame Salvotti, Mr. Fritsch, and Mr. Poznanski. We have before spoken of Mme. Salvotti’s rich, powerful voice, which she uses with an excellent method. Mr. Fritsch seemed in good trim, and sang with much success Gottschalk’s ‘Loving Heart,’ which secured him a double encore.”
