“The members of the Liederkranz Society gave a concert at their hall in Fourth-street, last evening. A numerous and proficient orchestra took part in it, and there were heard, as solo performers, Miss Anna Rosetti, Mr. Von Inten, Mrs. Becker and Mr. Candidus. Schumann’s overture, ‘Am Rhein,’ was capitally played by the instrumentalists, under the conductorship of Mr. Agricol Pauer. The choral forces of the Liederkranz sang next a glee by Haertel. Herr Von Inten, who has the solid qualities of a classical pianist, but not a touch under which the keys are as vocal as they might be, afterward recited Chopin’s ballad in G minor, and, for an encore, Heller’s ‘Wunderstunden,’ (No. 2,) which we have heard more expressively delivered. Miss Rosetti, who interpreted the fourth number, of the first part of the programme—a song by Mulder—has a rather hard soprano voice with little ‘staying’ power, and is moderately skilled in the use of it. The subject of the second portion of the entertainment was Mendelssohn’s ‘symphonic cantata,’ called ‘A Song of Praise.’ The orchestral work, though the brass outbalanced the strings, was cleverly done, and the choral performances were equally satisfactory. The solos were sung by the artists mentioned above.”
