“The music at St. Ann’s is so well known for its excellence that it is almost needless to call attention to it.” “The mass sung on yesterday was by Mrs. Grandisai, and is a beautiful and chaste piece of composition. A new feature has been added to the choir by the engagement of Señor Sarazati, a most accomplished violinist, who has just returned to this city from a tour through South America, in company with the celebrated Carlotta Patti. Señor Sarazati played a solo, ‘l’Hymne de St. Cecile,’ by Gounod, with such exquisite feeling that those who heard it will not easily forget it. The notes of this charming composition penetrate the very soul and fill the heart with a pure extatic [sic] bliss. The execution of the artist was in perfect keeping with the beauty and excellence of the composition. It is not often that an artist of Señor Sarazati’s powers can be heard in a church choir, or, indeed, out of it; and the pastor and congregation of St. Ann’s may compliment themselves on the acquisition of that priceless treasure, a true artist.”
