Specifically for the Fancy Dress Carnival held on 01/25/71. “The most successful entertainment given at any of the skating resorts of the metropolis, this season, took place last night, at the Empire Rink… The severe weather of last night enabled Manager Taxter to provide a sheet of glittering ice over the whole floor of the Rink, and in consequence the best facilities for the sport presented at the Rink this season were enjoyed by a large assemblage of the skating community, the attendance reaching nearly 2,000. A band of music played popular airs, and as the windows were all closed, and the Rink well lighted by gas, the atmosphere within presented a pleasant contrast to the cold winds without…” Goes on, but no further mention of music.
