“This cosey little nook where Momus masked in tan grins nightly, making most extravagant ‘mugs’ to touch the risabilities of his audience, was yesterday afternoon devoted to the benefit of the old favorite, Nelse Seymour. He was greeted with a rousing house, for this much drawn out knight of the buskins has as many friends off as he has on the boards. That quiet, penetrating humor which so characterizes the acting of this gentleman touches his audience like flashes of lightening, and as he stands and smiles at them one almost fancies he enjoys it as much as they do. In the evening the regular bill was played, ‘The Black Brigand’ being the attraction, Mr. Bryant as Queen of the Brigands. Dan is not so entirely happy in this impersonation as others we have seen him assume during the season. The house last night was not a crushing one. It is certainly time to give this well worn piece a little breathing spell. Perhaps transplanting may have something like the effect produced on dying plants and delicate [illegible] trees.”
