“This charming young artist gave a very interesting concert at this hall last night. She sang Alieneff’s ‘Nightingale’ and Maylath’s valse de bravoure, ‘The Return’ Both selections were admirably calculated to display the birdlike quality of Miss Busk’s voice and its brilliant cultivation. The waltz is very much better than those of the Arditi school, and the themes are all good and sparkling. The orchestration also brings out its best points, and is in no case obtrusive. Miss Busk sang it admirably, and gave tone and character to some of its most difficult passages. The other artists were Messrs. Nilssen, tenor; Hermanns, basso; Werner, violoncellist; H. B. Danforth, conductor, and Carozzi, accompanist. Mr. Nilssen has a light, pleasing voice, but one of his selections from Kücken, ‘Heaven Hath Shed a Tear,’ was spoiled by Mr. Werner’s violoncello not being in accord with Mr. Carozzi’s piano. Hermanns was suffering from hoarseness, and his fine voice was consequently unable to give full effect to the songs set down for him on the bill. With these exceptions the concert was an artistic success and the fair young bénéficiare received abundant applause.”
