“This house was crammed again last night from pit to dome with an eager, expectant audience to hear Wachtel. Whether his acting or his singing deserved the most attention was a difficult matter to decide, the one seemed to spring so naturally from the other. In the marriage scene and sestet he brought down the house again and again by his singing, and in the dying scene, Fra poco a me, he met with equal success.”
