Review: New York Herald, 31 October 1871, 7.

“Now, when the intense excitement over the Chicago fire has somewhat subsided, the colored citizens of New York are resolved to show that they have not been asleep in this work of doing good. Last evening a grand musical and literary entertainment was given at Association Hall, comprising some of the best colored artists, the proceeds of which are to be donated to suffering Chicago. The sympathy entertained by these people was manifested by a very large audience. Madame Keebler and Miss Mary Ann Williams were greeted with repeated applause, as were Professors Mora and Taylor and the others who took part in the entertainment.”
