“Miss Engle is a pleasing vocalist, possessing a pretty face and a plump, well rounded figure. She was received with much favor. Billy Carter’s performances had an air of freshness which made them enjoyable. The revival of T. D. Rice’s Ethiopian operetta entitled ‘Bone Squash,’ was a prominent feature of the evening’s performance. Sam Sanford’s performance of Bone Squash deserves the highest praise. It vividly recalled recollections of Jim Crow Rice’s acting of that part, and closely approximated the latter’s performance in point of artistic ability. Tony Pastor sang two new songs which met with favor; and a number of sketches, and the members of the regular company in their specialties, made up a pleasing programme. The Tuesday matinées have become quite popular and are well attended.”
