Review: New-York Daily Tribune, 25 December 1871, 5.

“The newest feature of entertainment here offered is a farce called ‘Beware of the Dog.’ Messrs. Birch, Bernard, Wambold, and Backus participate in the various farces and vocal and colloquial interludes, in their customary manner. It is a manner alternately sentimental, vivacious, jocular, and satirical; and it has long been a source of public enjoyment. This minstrel company is very firmly established in the regard of the public; and its managers spare no efforts to retain and augment the popularity they have so well earned and so long enjoyed.”
