“The music at the high mass was fully equal to the Christmas festival, and in complete harmony with all the magnificent, solemn ceremony of the sanctuary. Mr. Danforth, the accomplished organist of the church, spared no pains to render his choir not only excellent yesterday, but even more than excellent; and it is but just to say that the leading artists of the choir [see above] sang with a spirit and a will that must have much aided in his success. The mass sung was ‘Generalis’ in C, yesterday being its first performance in this country. The orchestra numbered twenty-four pieces, and there were some eighteen choristers in all. The most notable features [continued with a discussion of the performance of the various movements].”
