Murphy was the ex-Collector of the Port of New York. “The Ninth Regiment Band was soon on hand, and, after playing an overture and a quick march, the crowd, after some chaffing and cursing of the umbrella holders, united in a call for Mr. Murphy.” Concluding the event, “The Ninth Regiment Band played a march.”
