“The voices of the delightful singers composing Mr. Dolby’s troupe were heard last night in their farewell notes, for with the concert of Wednesday evening the company closed their notable series of musical entertainments. They were all in excellent voice. Madame Patey sung in her usual unsurpassable style, revealing to the best advantage the wealth of her noble organ, the finished culture of her style and the exquisite purity of her enunciation. The bright, clear soprano of Miss Wynne revealed new charms, and the well-trained tenor of Mr. Cummings again delighted the audience. Mr. Santley sung several of his best songs, including the ‘Ruddier than the Cherry,’ of Handel, and the ‘Stirrup Cup,’ his wonderful vocal flexibility creating the usual sensation among amateurs, while Mr. Patey sung better than on any previous night. Amost every piece on the programme was encored by the large audience present, and the members of the Dolby troupe took their farewell with the best wishes of a cultivated and music-loving assemblage.”
