“A very large audience, representing the best elements of our German population, crowded Steinway Hall last night, on the occasion of the concert for the benefit of the German Ladies’ Benevolent Society. The varied programme was listened to with much interest. It included the violin-playing of Dr. Damrosch, the careful chorus-singing of the Arion Society, the vocalization of Miss Elzer, Madame Fabbri and Mr. Müller, and the piano-forte playing of Miss Mehlig, who was received with special favor, and at once resumed her high position in the affections of a New York audience. The whole entertainment was eminently successful, and must have resulted in a handsome profit to the treasury of the society under whose auspices it took place.”
