“Chickering Hall was filled last night by a fashionable audience, the occasion being the first soirée musicale given by the Misses Hattie E. and Anna R. Bulkley, assisted by [see above]. The Misses Bulkley are very promising young singers, Miss Hattie possessing a sweet soprano and Miss Anna a rich contralto voice. ‘Ah quel giorno,’ from Rossini’s ‘Semiramide,’ was excellently rendered by Miss Anna R. Bulkley. The Von Weber Quartet, comprising Messrs. Bush, Kendall, Becket and Howland, added much to the entertainment by the interpretation of several four-part songs. This quartet is already known to the musical world, and their performance last evening was among their best. Mr. Becket was in good condition, and he sang the solo ‘My Queen’ with his usual finish. The quartet ‘Ecco Quel Fiero,’ by Costa, given by the Misses Bulkley, Messrs. Bush and Becket, was well received. Miss Toedt played with her wonted surety and expressiveness, and was complimented by a hearty encore. The performance, in brief, was very enjoyable.”
