Review: New-York Times, 26 May 1863, 8.

“There was a full and enthusiastic representation of the youth, beauty and patriotism of the Italian residents of this City at Irving Hall last evening, to participate in the ceremony of inaugurating a beautiful silk banner, with which the Italian charitable organization, known as the ‘Unione e Fratellanza Italiana,’ has just provided itself…. [I]t had been selected because it was the emboem of united Italy. Its sacred folds were first displayed in Palermo on the 12th of January, 1848, and thence all over Italy. . . .

Excellent music, both vocal and instrumental, under the leadership of Signor Barili, added to the pleasure of the assemblage.”
