“An audience of between six and seven thousand persons listened to the superb music of the Garde Republicaine Band in the Hall of the American Institute last evening. It was composed of the better classes, and the toilets of the ladies were very fine.

“Neither Dr. Greeley nor Gov. Brown put in an appearance. Sylvestre’s cornet solo was encored, and for a final encore the entire band played the ‘Red, White, and Blue.’ The applause was very enthusiastic throughout, and was frequently mingled with cheers.”
