Review: New York Herald, 30 May 1863, 7.

“On Thursday evening a complimentary amateur concert was given at Irving Hall to Signor A. Barili by his pupils. The affair was most fashionable and attractive, and passed off with great eclat. Noticeable among the morceaux sung was the ‘Casta Diva,’ which a well known lady of New York rendered with a power and finish truly admirable. A young lady sung most sweetly a romanza composed by Signor Barili. The applause which greeted this effort was unceasing until an encore was obtained. We have not space to mention the entire performance, which was truly most artistic and pleasing, and reflected great credit upon the professor and his pupils.

The instrument used upon this occasion was one of those magnificent toned pianos which have rendered Messrs. Steinway & Sons celebrated, and which recently won for them a prize at the World’s Fair in London.

The house was filled by a most brilliant and fashionable audience.”
